These pictures were taken on the 10th of October.
After looking around outside of
Jing'an Temple and poking fun at the statues it
was time for lunch and we were quite hungry... and
Burger
King simply won't cut it!
Along the countless restaurants and food stalls in
the area Sheila and Eric found Grandma's Kitchen.
It's mostly Cantonese food, and the menu was quite
extensive. While they were trying to decide what to
have for lunch I wandered around the still empty
restaurant and found myself admiring the large
aquarium walls separating sections of the dinning
room.
The first item that arrived was... well... I wasn't
sure what it's called. I only ordered it because I
saw its picture on the menu. It looks quite
interesting, and when I took a bite I discovered
that it's mostly Vegetables inside a crunchy Puff
Pastry. It was a really yummy surprise!
The next item was the Fried Noodles. Again, all
vegetarian ingredients. Very, very tasty!
After the noodles came the Fried Pork Buns. It's a
sort of staple thing to have in Shanghai. And even
though Grandma's Kitchen specializes in Cantonese
Cuisine they still make top notch Fried Pork Buns!
Of course no Cantonese Cuisine experience is
complete without Pork and Prawn Shiomai and Steamed
Prawn Dumplings. They're perfect!
And when I was going through the menu I read
something that sort of sounded funny that ends with
'Sydney'. So I ordered it and I received a small
bowl with Macerated Pear, served Chilled, in sugar
syrup that tastes a bit like Chinese Cough Medicine.
I was told that it's just an error with the
translation. I like it though, something out of the
ordinary.
I also got a big bowl of Noodles in Soup with Bok
Choy and Roasted Duck. And with that we started
feasting away. The food the was great at Grandma's
Kitchen and while we were there I promised myself
that we would eat there again before we leave
Shanghai. Their food was simply that good. Coolness!
