Eat All You Can Eat

11:55pm Tuesday 2nd February 2010 Sydney (gmt+10)

On my post last month I mentioned that there are two kinds of sushi restaurants: The "Preen and Proper" restaurants, and The "Eat 'till You Pop" restaurants. And Kansai has got to be the best in the latter category.

It's quietly tucked away along Hunter Street, just a few meters from Wynyard Station. The funny thing is that there's another sushi restaurant just a couple of doors away. Those who've eaten in that other restaurant almost feel ripped off once they step out along the sidewalk and find the "$25 All You Can Eat Sushi" sign. Hehehe!

Of course the quality of the food is nowhere near as good as that of Sushi Roll at World Square, but the sheer volume of sashimi and sushi and other delicacies such as eel and tempura prawn that they produce ensures that all the stuff that you get are fresh. And not to mention it's very good value. You can choose to order according to the menu and pay the individual prices, or you can get the $25 All You Can Eat with a limited menu... or the unlimited $37 All You Can Eat package wherein you can have just about anything, as many times as you want. The Sashimi Bridge is almost $50 each, so just two of those and you already saved heaps.

The only downside to wolfing down an unholy amount of sushi and sashimi is that after a while you start to get that fishy after taste. So my wife and I always make it a point after eating at Kansai to walk up to George Street and into Max Brenner at the Metcentre.

You can get in through the Metcentre's main entrance on George Street, but it's quicker if you go in via Margaret Street. During weekdays after 6pm it's a really quiet and cozy place. Quite romantic actually with all the candles and the chocolates. And those pictures on Max's posters seem to have a sublime message. Something worth pondering with your special someone. Hehehe!
