NY Raincheck

Tuesday 13 March 2007 - 2:12 (gmt - 8 / San Francisco)

I'm now back in San Francisco... where it's nice and warm. I just had a hearty hot dinner and a cool shower. I feel really cozy and quite happy. :) However, a few hours earlier I was in a really crappy mood. Hehehe!

I was really hoping to visit New York while I was in DC with Rosey. But because of unusually cold weather late in the season I thought it's best not to bring it up anymore. So the closest that I got to seeing the Big Apple was when catching my connecting flight at JFK. I thought I'd at least have an hour or so in the airport, but it didn't turn out that way.

Right now it makes me laugh. But while I was there I really felt like hitting someone in the head. The aircraft that we're on, the one from DC, took off an hour and 15 minutes behind schedule. When we got to JFK we managed to dock into the tarmac rather quickly. However, by law we couldn't leave the aircraft until the baggage has been unloaded... and no one was coming to collect it! So we had to wait indefinitely... and that aircraft that you see on the top left image is the one that will take us to San Francisco... and it was almost ready to leave!!!

For most of the passengers their final stop was NY, so they weren't fussed with the delay. There were only about a dozen of us who were meant to continue to SF. And we managed to board the connecting flight with only seconds to spare. The flight attendant locked the door as soon as I got to my seat! Whew!

Okay, it was a mad rush jumping from one plane to another. But at least we wouldn't have to wait long for us to take off, right? WRONG!!! It took us another 45 minutes to get off the ground because of the number of aircrafts queued up in front of us! GEEZ!!!

Eventually the plane took off and 5 1/2 hours later we were in San Francisco. Those of us who began the trip from Washington sort of found each other again in front of the empty baggage conveyor belt after everyone else got their stuffs. And we all had the same look on our faces. "No, it can't be!", as one of my co-passengers cried out. And indeed it was true... our luggage were still in New York because they didn't make it into the connecting flight. Oh dear.
