Washington Winter

Wednesday 6 March 2007 - 23:55 (gmt - 5 / Washington DC)

After a couple of sunny "spring-ish" days it started snowing again! It's not a good day to go sightseeing outdoors, although a few tourists still gave it a try.

I'm not sure if that's him. But I think I saw Colin Powell walk pass. Coolness!

I visited the Holocaust Memorial Museum. I was not able to take any pictures, I think mostly becauseS they wanted to keep the place as solemn as possible. The main exhibition illustrates the story leading up to the genocide in Europe during WWII. It's quite moving. It's a must-see if you're visiting DC.

Afterwards I went to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. I was there all afternoon and I spent most of my time in the pre-historic section. Most of the skeletons were of course replicas, but I was surprised to see a lot of actual fossils. There's the raptor, the triceratops and the t-rex. Neat!

After checking out the dinosaurs I went to the section with all the gems, diamonds, pearls, and precious metals. Expensive stuff!

From top left going clockwise: Cavemen drawing stuffs on the wall, an ancient vase depicting the Peloponnesian war, a stuffed lion and a sarcophagus and a mummy. I was not able to spend much time in the mammals section because it was already 5pm and they were getting ready to close. Oh well, time flies. But it was good fun being there!
