Japantown

Thursday 22 February 2007 - 22:09 (gmt - 8 / San Francisco)

For breakfast today I had a latte and a pretzel stuffed with cream cheese. Although it was really yummy I still felt hungry. Plus I had a lot of walking to do so I went to this diner around the corner and ordered a meal called "Extreme Breakfast". It had two eggs, heaps of hash browns, strips of bacon, sausages and three pancakes with maple syrup on the side. Massive! :)

Then I started looking for St Mary's Cathedral. Everyone that I spoke to said that it's a must see when visiting San Francisco. And they were right.

Its architecture is very unique. It's like a space ship. It's so huge that if you are prone to vertigo then you better not look up when standing near it. Hehehe! The interior is well lit. The sunlight amazingly finds its way through every nook and cranny. And the ceiling was so wide and so high that I couldn't fit it all into one shot. I wonder how they clean it though. Hehehe!

Around the block is Japantown. It's not as huge or as crowded as Chinatown but it is still worth seeing. The buildings look like the ones on the streets of Kyoto and the street signs are also in Japanese. And the first thing that came into my mind was... SUSHI!!!

Instead of sushi trains, like the ones in Sydney, here they have sushi boats. They're like gondolas floating around the table. The tricky thing is that they do move a wee bit fast. And there is a very good chance that if you're not careful  you might spill one or more plates into the water. The sushi Chef wouldn't like that. Hehehe!

I had prawns, salmon, eel, squid, tuna... I tried pretty much everything. I think I had 10 servings of sushi! I was so full! BURP!!! :)
