Nasty Moms

Saturday 4 February 2006 - 21:47 [gmt+10]

It was a pretty busy week for me at work. I never had the chance to take any photos. This image of myself giving the "death stare" was taken by someone whom I caught fiddling with my camera.

Today I had to take the bus because there were no trains where I live. Something different. In Sydney there is actually a bust of J. Rizal, alongside other heroes who told the Spanish where to go.
This is the scene of the crime committed by a nasty mom. It was a very shameless thing to do! I was so distressed that I had to have a beer. And yes, that's the Opera House in the background.

Nasty Moms

Annoyed is among the words that describe how I feel about something that happened to me today. Distressed is another word. Flabbergasted, another. Shocked... well, not really because it's the 3rd time that it has happened to me in a year, which is just plain wrong!

I was doing my "business" this afternoon in the men's room. So I was standing in front of the urinal and getting on with it when a little boy walked in and stood in front of the urinal next to me. He said "hi", I said "hello", and he started doing exactly what I was doing.

A minute later a woman in her mid-30's barged in! Yes, right into the men's room and straight into the urinals section.

I suspect that she's the little boy's mom. She pulled his pants down and stood beside him... and closely watched him while he did his "business". At that time I was still doing my "business" as well!

She didn't say anything to the same effect as "I'm so sorry but I had to check if he's okay." or anything as such. She's not even meant to be there in the first place! If she wasn't confident enough to leave him alone then she should've taken him to the ladies' room instead.

I wanted to say something to her... but I had to restrain myself because I was in the presence of her child. I looked her straight in the eyes, and she looked back with an expression of "Why, what's the matter?" on her face.

The little boy pulled up his pants, washed his hands. He said "bye" to me, and I said "bye" to him. And he left with his mom by his side who didn't utter a single word.

Look, I won't incriminate every young moms in Sydney. I won't even lecture on the right thing to do because I'm not a parent and I have absolutely no idea on how to mind a child. But if the roles were reversed... say for example, if that was a dad who went into the ladies' room to watch his daughter pee then what do you think would happen? Most probably the police would arrest him, the press would have a field day, and all the women in the ladies' room that he walked into would've abused him either verbally or physically.

It's wrong and it's unfair!!!

To avoid any unpleasant situations in the future maybe I'll just use a cubicle. Geez!

Here's another version of that "death stare" photo. It's the same kind of look I gave that nasty mom in the men's room! Grrrr...
