New Toys

The new dishwashing machine, covered in layers of bubble wrap. The kitchen was a big mess this morning.
It took ages to install it. It's anything but plug and play. Finally, I saved enough to buy myself a new digital camera.
The screen is huge and the resolution is perfect. And it comes in black with a bit of stainless steel. Coolness!

New Toys

Are you a compulsive shopper? Or do you carefully decide on what to buy and patiently save for it and wait for it to be on sale?

Well, I can be both. Hehehe! But if it's an item that I need and if I intend to keep and use it for a long time then I can be very, very meticulous and fussy. Today I finally got myself two toys that I thought of months ago. I carefully chose which models to buy, and in the case of the digital camera I patiently saved and waited for it to be on sale. And right now I have a big fat smile on my face! :)

This is our new dishwashing machine. I started work at the bistro in December last year. As soon as I walked into the kitchen I knew straight away that on top of my "to buy" list should be a new dishwashing machine. I guess in most homes (in Australia and in the Philippines at least) it is more of an accessory because we can always wash dirty dishes and pots by hand. But in a commercial kitchen it is unthinkable not to have one.

It wasn't hard to decide on the type and model. The difficult bit was trying to find a decently priced package. I mean, you don't just purchase the equipment, you also have to install it, adjust the work area's surface and dispose of the old unit. And you have to get a professional (or a group of them) to do it. Any sort of dodgy workmanship can spell disaster! You might as well wash by hand!

When I finally found a good price I have to get my superiors to approve the purchase. Having a 50 year old dishwashing machine made this task easy. All I have to do was show them how many plates are damaged per week and I immediately got the thumbs up. As soon as that happened I gave the supplier the green light. They assembled, delivered, installed it... and they took away the old one. Coolness!!! :)

The digital camera on the other hand is very straightforward. As usual I knew which one to buy. And I knew where to buy it. It was just a matter of saving enough money and waiting for it to be on sale.

I always go to this shop near TownHall station. I've been going there more or less since I moved to Sydney 11 years ago. Back then it was just a tiny corner shop. Now it's a flashy showroom. The guy who runs the shop is real tech-junkie. You can ask him all sorts of questions about any electrical products and he'll tell you everything. And because I'm a regular customer I get a lot of discounts and freebies.

Anyway I initially wanted to buy the DSC-W5. When I heard that they're on sale I immediately went there. But for the same price I got the DSC-W7 instead. Wow!

It's so much more powerful than Brick-Cam, the DSC-P51, which I have been using since 2002. I'm very impressed with the design as well. My only issue is that it's small. But that's more about me because I have big fingers. Hehehe!
