It's
been almost a week since I updated my
website. I've been very busy with work and
other unavoidable errands. So, what's new
with me?
Well,
to begin with my work boots have a new set
of shoelaces. Yes, I wear boots in the
kitchen. I used to be a big fan of
Birki's, but then I realized that it's
actually the reason why I was having
problems with my back.
Clogs (or what some of my clueless
Filipino friends refer to as "bakya")
are more or less the common footwear of
chefs, but I'm an exception. My chiropractor
advised me to wear boots because it corrects
the flaws in my posture, which in turn
prevents back problems. I'm tall and
heavy... and I spend most of the day on my
feet, which is why I have to keep my ankles
straight and well supported. Birki's, no
matter how comfortable and light, does not
offer that sort of function.
It
worked. I never had anymore back problems
since I made the switch. And I also realized
that I can move faster. Now I can't imagine
not wearing a pair of
Mack Boots at work. I like them because
they're very strong and durable. The one
that I'm using, I had it for over 3 years
now which is very good considering the abuse
that I put it through everyday.
Usually the shoelaces are the first to
break. I'm not superstitious, but when one
of them snapped on Friday the 13th I had to
raise my eyebrows. I was not chased by
demons or abducted by aliens, but to
awkwardly drag my right shoe around during
the busiest period of the day is bad luck
enough. I had a really difficult time
getting the food out!
Eventually I got through it and I bought
myself a new set of shoelaces plus an extra
set just in case, which I placed inside my
Gravis "man-bag" together with my notepads,
organizer, address book, calculator, PDA,
Thermometer, marker pens, petty cash, etc.
My
Gravis "man-bag" also carried at one stage
my now lost
tempura usb. It makes me sad. Awww...
On a
happier note... we're getting a
new dishwasher next week! Woohoo! The
one that we have now is... believe it or
not... over 50 years old! You can see from
the picture above... it looks like part of a
U-boat or a prototype of
R2D2. Hehehe!
As
soon as I took over the Bistro I immediately
petitioned a replacement. Not only does it
damage the plates, but it also produces a
horribly loud noise. So loud that you can
actually hear it inside the Men's room. Plus
it takes ages to start... kind'a like an old
pick-up truck.
Just
a question... I prefer to have my steaks
medium-rare or rare, depending on the cut.
What about you guys? How do you like your
steaks? :)
